Detention Center Prayer Vigil:  June 2, 2013

The St. Stan’s Social Justice Committee is sponsoring a Prayer Vigil for the entire St. Stan’s community at the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center, 425 Grove Street, St. Paul on Sunday Afternoon, June 2nd, from 2:30-3:00 p.m.  The vigil includes a brief prayer service and singing.  If you need a ride or more information, call Karen at 651-690-1590 or Pat at 651-270-4639.  This is an opportunity for St. Stan’s to pray and show support for the just treatment of immigrants and their families who aspire to become citizens.  Please mark your calendars!

St. Stan’s Annual Food Drive:  July 21 – 22

Graceful Journey: A Workshop about Making End of Life Decisions

Discussions about significant and sensitive issues such as dying can sometimes be emotional and even daunting.  Yet, when a person’s wishes and preferences are known before there is a medical crisis, it can lessen anxiety, pain, conflict and guilt for family members.

Join us at St. Stan’s to learn and practice how to start having these discussions with our families and how to complete a healthcare directive.

Pat Tommet, an Advance Care Planning Facilitator, retired nurse, and member of St. Stan’s Church will conduct these workshops.  Topics covered will include:

  • Experiences with death and making healthcare decisions for other
  • Envisioning your own end-of-life journey (wishes, hopes and concerns)
  • Common treatment choices that often need to be made
  • Barriers to starting the discussion with family and strategies for overcoming these barriers
  • Selecting a healthcare agent
  • Preparing a healthcare directive

This two-part Evening Workshop on Advance Care Planning will be offered:

  • Monday, October 7:  Starting the Discussion – 7:00 to 8:30 PM
  • Monday, November 4:  Completing a Healthcare Directive – 7:00 to 8:30 PM

This two-part Morning Workshop on Advance Care Planning will be offered:

  • Tuesday, October 8:  Starting the Discussion – 10:00 to 11:30 AM
  • Tuesday, November 5:  Completing a Health Care Directive – 10:00 to 11:30 PM

Please join us for our annual Fall Festival, on Sunday, September 7 from 11am-5pm. The event will feature bingo, wheel of fortune, mini golf, Miss Ringy Dingy the clown, kid store and games, live music, beer and hotdogs, live Vikings game showing, child slide, white elephant garage sale, variety booth, silent auction, jar bar, bakery, and our famous turkey dinner with all the trimmings!

If you are interested in joining the volunteer team that coordinates the Fall Festival, please contact committee chair Tim Lucas at 651-336-7072. We have a number of openings this year. Jobs big and small are available!

We also need donations for our various booths. Please help us with the following:
• White Elephant Garage Sale-gently used items
• Variety Booth-new prizes for adults and children
• Jar Bar-new packaged candy or other goodies
• Bakery Goods-sweets, jams and other treats
• Silent Auction-gift cards and themed baskets
• Child Store-books, games and other child toys
• Cash to purchase gifts is appreciated too!

Please bring your items to mass starting August 9.

Thank you for all of your contributions! This is our largest fundraiser all year and the proceeds go right back into our programs!

 

Library Open

The St. Stan’s Library will be open after the 10:00 mass on the first Sunday of every month. Parishioners can check out, return, or donate books at this time. The library is located in the Parish Center, across the street from the church.
